Sound Recording: Pileated Woodpecker: Juvenile Female, 1 call
Recorded on Aug. 5, 2023
Recorded in Peabody Street, Duluth, MN
This bird was in the back of my yard, first feeding on a rotten red maple trunk on the ground and then up in an ash. She’s a daughter of the banded Pileated Woodpecker (BB) who’s been visiting my yard for almost 2 years. The bird in the photo is this female or her sibling–at least two juvenile females and one male visited my yard today. Later, I watched BB feeding feeding a female and a male fledgling, though I got photos only of him with the female.
I made the sound recording as a video with my Canon R5, the footage out of focus just so I could capture the sound. The young bird yelled two or three times, but this is the only time I managed to record it.
