This lovely vireo only rarely makes it north of Duluth. If the Red-eyed Vireo makes short, robin-like phrases, the Yellow-throated Vireo makes short, Scarlet Tanager-like phrases. It’s associated with forest edge habitat, but successful breeding seems to require large blocks of forest. Yellow-throated Vireo numbers decrease sharply in forests smaller than 250 acres (100 hectares) in the northeastern United States.
