This lovely bird of grassy areas and wetlands, from tundra to paved car parks and lawns in Europe and Asia (Laura has seen it in Austria and Hungary) appears occasionally in western Alaska and along the Pacific coast. Laura saw her only North American bird at the Nome Airport.
