This handsome jay is found in Ecuador and Peru, in subtropical or tropical dry forest and subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest where it forages in the open on beetles, ants, and other insects. It makes a repetitive hollow call. Like most jays, it exhibits no sexual dimorphism.
