Ixoreus naevius
Order: Passeriformes
Family: Turdidae (Thrushes and Allies)
This “fancy robin” breeds in the Pacific Northwest and winters mostly along the West Coast, but many birds wander inland, especially in “invasion years.” Just about every year, at least one or two turn up in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Laura has seen one in her backyard, but they prefer yards with a good stand of conifers. They seem to notice yards with feeders, but seldom come to them; they do take spilled seed from the ground.
