Laura Erickson's For the Birds

Once believed to be on the edge of extinction, with fewer than 100 remaining birds restricted to a small area near the Red Rock Lakes of Montana, until a larger group was found in Alaska. Reintroductions and careful management have brought the population back. This species was the subject of E.B. White’s children’s book, The Trumpet of the Swan.
