Molothrus bonariensis
Order: Passeriformes
Family: Icteridae (Troupials and Allies)
The Shiny Cowbird was originally found only in South America, but during the 20th century, expanded its range into the Caribbean. It reached southern Florida in the mid-1980s. Its range expansion has raised conservation concerns with some endangered bird species in the Caribbean, because, like the Brown-headed Cowbird, the Shiny Cowbird is a nest parasite, laying its eggs in the nests of other species which must raise the young at the expense of their own chicks.
