Progne subis
Order: Passeriformes
Family: Hirundinidae (Swallows)
Our largest swallow nests almost entirely in man-made structures in the East; many western ones still use natural cavities. The first ones to return each year are older, experienced birds, not “scouts.” Younger birds return a few weeks later.
