Baeolophus inornatus
Order: Passeriformes
Family: Paridae (Tits, Chickadees, and Titmice)
This sweet little bird of understated beauty was once called the Plain Titmouse along with the Juniper Titmouse; the two species were split in 1996 as published in the 1998 AOU Checklist, 7th edition. The Oak Titmouse is found almost entirely in California, barely making it into Oregon and Baja California. The California ornithologist Dave Shuford called it “the voice and soul of the oak woodlands” in The Marin County Breeding Bird Atlas.
