Cygnus olor
Order: Anseriformes
Family: Anatidae (Ducks, Geese, and Waterfowl)
This beautiful bird, the species the fabled “ugly duckling” turns into, is not native to America. A valued part of the native avifauna of Europe and Asia (with some wintering in northern Africa), it has become a serious ecological problem in America, competing with native swans and other waterfowl.
