Sternula antillarum
Order: Charadriiformes
Family: Laridae (Gulls, Terns, and Skimmers)
This elegant little bird breeds along coastal beaches and interior rivers in the United States and on coastal beaches along Mexico; also on Caribbean islands and islands off the coast of South America. Few winter anywhere in the U.S. Nesting Least Terns are as vulnerable on beaches as nesting Piping Plovers, but seem even more skittish when people come near.
