Ramphastos sulfuratus
Order: Piciformes
Family: Ramphastidae (Toucans)
Laura’s favorite toucan can be found from Belize (where it is the national bird) and southeastern Mexico to northern Colombia and northwestern Venezuela. It’s holding fairly strong over much of its range but is still subject to hunting for its meat and its beautiful bill. You can read more about it at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s Neotropical Birds.
