Falco rusticolus
Order: Falconiformes
Family: Falconidae (Falcons and Caracaras)
The largest falcon in the known universe (except for the Millennium Falcon, of course) and the daytime bird of prey nesting furthest north, this splendid bird is rare or accidental in the northern tier of the Lower-48, but is fairly common on its far northern, circumpolar range. It is predicted to be one of the northern birds that will decline as the polar ice melts due to climate change.
