This common large goose of Eurasia and the U.K. is also raised domestically; escapees are often seen here and there in the U.S., where they can be tricky to distinguish from genuinely wild vagrants. Most farm geese belong to this species, which was one of the first birds to be domesticated, at least 3,000 years ago in Ancient Egypt.
