Dumetella carolinensis
Order: Passeriformes
Family: Mimidae (Mockingbirds and Thrashers)
This mockingbird relative sings a jumbled string of imitations, with the distinctive catlike mew interspersed. Nests are often placed at eye level in dense shrubbery right in our backyards, but the birds are so secretive near them that we are often unaware that catbirds nested near us until leaves fall in autumn, long after the birds have departed.
