Anas querquedula
Order: Anseriformes
Family: Anatidae (Ducks, Geese, and Waterfowl)
This handsome little dabbling duck breeds in much of Europe and across the Palearctic, the entire population moving to southern Africa, India, Bangladesh, and Australasia during the winter of the Northern hemisphere. It appears in North America as a vagrant. I’ve seen it in Austria, Hungary, and Uganda, but oddly enough, every one of the photos I’ve managed to get was at the Erickson Flowage in Crex Meadows in Wisconsin!
