Junco hyemalis
Order: Passeriformes
Family: Emberizidae (Buntings and New World Sparrows)
This sparrow, nicknamed the “snow bird,” has distinctive white outer tail feathers that are conspicuous when the bird flies away. A ground feeder, it’s drawn to feeding stations in large numbers during migration and winter, especially when white millet or sunflower is scattered on the ground.
