Toxostoma rufum
Order: Passeriformes
Family: Mimidae (Mockingbirds and Thrashers)
The state bird of Georgia made it into Ripley’s Believe It or Not! for the huge number of different song phrases one individual sang as recorded by Donald Kroodsma. In the same family with mockingbirds and catbirds, Brown Thrashers sing a long string of phrases including many imitations of other birds, the phrases usually sung in pairs.
