Sound Recording: Cane Toads in San Jose, Costa Rica
Recorded on July 16, 2017
Recorded in Hotel Robledal, San Jose, Costa Rica
I recorded these outside the Hotel Robledal, with my Olympus LS-100 recorder on the ground at the edge of the pond. The clunking in the middle was when a hot-to-trot male Cane Toad was hustling over to a female and tripped on the microphone. This is unedited, so the quiet spaces here and there were when all the toads shut up at once. It’s the first natural sound recording I ever made in stereo; you can hear that the toads are calling in different directions. There was a happy bar/restaurant nearby, and the music provides a fun if unnatural background.
